In the year of 2020, content creation isn’t just reserved for fashion influencers, beauty gurus photographers and vloggers. These days, it seems like we all have a reason to be creating quality content but just what kind of equipment do you need on hand in order to do that? Don’t worry,  I’ve got you covered! Below is a list of my go-to pieces of equipment for content creation.

My iPhone

Your secret weapon for content creating is already in your pocket! When I first started my YouTube channel, I didn’t have any fancy equipment. I just relied on my iPhone and some of those videos have racked up millions of views. You just need to start hitting record no matter what kind of equipment you are using.

TIP: If you want to improve the quality of the video on your iPhone, you can choose other frame rates and video resolution settings in your iPhone Settings. Go to:  Camera > Record Video. iPhone’s default is to shoot in 30 frames per second which is okay but to upgrade that there are a few different options in your settings. The faster the frame rate, the higher the resolution. Beware, the higher the resolution the larger the file which can make uploading and sharing this footage a little more difficult and time consuming but the quality makes it worth it!

DivaRing Light Super Nova

If I’ve learned anything in my 10+ years of modeling, it’s that light is everything.  I use the DivaRingLight Super Nova and I have been using it since I started creating videos. I always find it helpful to have an extra light source for your videos in case your natural light isn’t great. I’m lucky that my apartment does have a lot of really great natural light which is usually my preferred type of light, but there are times when I film videos in my bathroom or in my bedroom where the light isn’t quite as good and having this ring light is key! For this particular ring light, it does come with a light stand but I swapped it out for a different one as I needed one that was versatile enough in height to stand on different surfaces like my bathroom countertop.

Canon Powershot G7X MARK II.

Once I started getting into the groove of creating content, I invested in a really great camera. There are so many different cameras out there, but the one that works well for me and that I know a lot of other YouTubers use is the Canon Powershot G7 X MARK II. This camera is really great and super easy to use which was key for me. I love it that you can flip the screen and see what you look like while you are filming. This is really helpful when vlogging and filming on the go. I also love that it comes with a free app that allows you to control the camera from your iPhone. This allows me to use it for self-portraits when my Instagram Husband isn’t free to snap my photos. It’s also helpful to invest in a spare battery and charger. I can’t tell you how many times I started filming a video and my battery dies.

SanDisk Ultra 128GB Memory Card

There is nothing more frustrating than when I’m filming a video and I run out of space on my camera. To avoid that, I now try and buy SD cards with the biggest amount of space, usually a 128GB card, that way I can fit a lot of content on there. I am a total content hoard so I tend to leave a lot of my footage on these SD cards and rotate between two 128GB cards and eventually move them into DropBox. You’ll also need an SD card reader so you can upload all of your amazing footage.

GEEKOTO 77” Tripod

You may need a tripod that has more versatility and options in height which is why I love this GEEKOTO 77'' Tripod. It’s easy to use and really lightweight which is key because I travel a lot and don’t want to be lugging around heavy equipment. The Gorilla is great for vlogging and shooting on the go. I use the Geekoto when I am more stationary such as shooting a cooking video or more of a confessional style video.

Some other really great things I love to use include a glass suction mount for my iPhone, which is perfect for when I am shooting content in a bathroom or smaller area. The Ulanzi iPad tablet tripod mount adapter also really comes in handy when I want to pan to the entire space that I am shooting in and really capture more scenery. And while I already mentioned that having a charger and battery on hand is always super important while filming, this BM Premium NB-7L battery and charger kit has seriously saved me so many times when I need to recharge my camera. It’s great for throwing into your purse when you are filming on the go!

And that’s it! These are all of the things I use and love to create my videos! The most important thing is to just start hitting record no matter what kind of equipment you are using. I can’t wait to see what you create!
